Rock chips

Tucson roads where stones are flying

A stone the size of a pea is enough to start a crack. These are the stretches around Tucson where construction, freight or mine traffic puts the most loose material in front of you, as ADOT and local reporting describe them in 2026.

Getting an exact price

What we need to quote your windshield

Windshields for the same model year can differ by several features, and each one changes the part. The quickest way to an exact quote is to send these with your request.

  • The VIN. It is printed at the lower corner of the windshield, on the driver door frame and on your insurance card. A photo of it, texted to (877) 350-5962, works.
  • Whether there is a camera housing behind the rearview mirror. That means a camera bracket on the glass and a calibration afterward.
  • Whether the wipers come on by themselves in rain, or the headlights switch on at dusk. Both use a sensor that sits against the windshield.
  • Whether your speed shows up on the glass (a heads-up display), or the windshield has fine heating wires at the bottom.
  • Your insurance company, if you plan to use it: GEICO, USAA, State Farm, Progressive, Allstate or a smaller name. We check whether you carry full glass coverage before booking and help you file the claim.

With all that, the price you get is for the glass your car actually takes, not a range.

Through the year

Booking around Tucson's calendar

Summer is the hard season on glass. Tucson averages 68 days a year at 100°F or more, mostly June through September, and a chip that sits through a few of those tends to run. In the heat, the first slot after 8am under a carport is the most comfortable for everyone, and leaving a sunshade up keeps the old windshield cooler until we get there.

Monsoon season runs June 15 to September 30. Storms usually build in the afternoon, so a morning booking gives the most room. If your car sits in the open and rain or blowing dust is coming, we call and move the time with you.

The rest of the year, think about traffic and parking. The gem and mineral shows fill lots near the Convention Center from late January into February, and El Tour de Tucson closes roads for a day each November. If your address is near either, tell us when you book.

Where the car is

Tucson parking spots we work in every week

  1. Carports

The classic Tucson setup and our favorite: shade, cover from a passing shower and room on both sides.

  2. Apartment lots near the university

Lots around West University and the streets near campus often run on permits. A visitor space or a note from the manager keeps the car from being ticketed.

  3. Garages with low ceilings

Parking garages downtown and at the hospitals can be tight. Give us the clearance listed at the entrance so we can plan.

  4. Gated communities

If your neighborhood checks vendors at a gate, send the code or put us on the guest list, along with any HOA rule about work in driveways.

  5. Workplace lots

Fine as long as both front doors can open fully and the lot allows vendors on site.

After the glass

Calibrating the forward camera

A lot of newer cars look at the road through a small window of glass behind the mirror. When that glass is replaced, the camera has to be set back to the vehicle maker's specifications so lane-keep and automatic braking aim where they should. We calibrate it in the same visit where the procedure can be done on site, and tell you before booking if your car needs a different arrangement.

When your vehicle needs calibration, it comes with the windshield replacement. The Tucson ADAS calibration page explains the steps.

Windshield replacement in Tucson, answered

Still unsure? Call (520) 492-2800 or text a photo of the damage to (877) 350-5962.

Is it legal to drive in Tucson with a cracked windshield?

Arizona law (A.R.S. § 28-957.01) requires an adequate windshield, and a separate statute bars anything that blocks the driver's clear view. Neither gives a crack length. A crack in front of the driver, or one that keeps growing, is a reason to replace the glass. We replace windshields; we do not repair chips.

Is OEM-quality glass the same as factory glass?

It is built to the vehicle maker's specifications for shape, optical clarity and the mounts your features need. We match it by VIN, so the camera bracket, sensor pad and any heads-up display area are right for your car.

Can you do the job in a hospital or downtown garage?

Often. We need enough headroom to work and space to open both front doors. Tell us the garage, the level and the posted height, and check that the garage lets vendors work there.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Same-day appointments are available in most areas around Tucson. You can request one online at any hour, and installs run Monday to Saturday from 8am to 6pm.

What does the warranty cover?

Every install has our lifetime workmanship warranty for as long as you own the vehicle. That covers our workmanship and defects in the glass we install. A new rock strike is new damage and is not covered. Read the full terms at bangautoglass.com/warranty.
