Two places, one road
Either side of the county line
Catalina and SaddleBrooke sit next to each other on the north edge of the Tucson area, but they answer to different counties. Catalina is an unincorporated census-designated place in Pima County, home to 7,551 people in 2020, at about 3,100 feet. SaddleBrooke, just over the line in Pinal County, is a retirement community of 12,574 people at about 3,400 feet; in 2020, 73 percent of its residents were 65 or older.
The ground they share has an unusual history. Lloyd Golder III bought the 18,000-acre Rail N. Ranch here in 1959, land that took in part of what is now Catalina State Park and part of the Biosphere 2 site. In the early 1960s the Golder Dam went up about four miles north of the county line to hold a lake for a planned community called Lago del Oro. The dam was later declared unsafe, the lake never came, and SaddleBrooke was built on that land instead. Lago del Oro Parkway still carries the old name, and the Golder ranch is still worked as open range.
Getting there
Oracle Road, the road in
State Route 77
Oracle Road starts as SR 77 at I-10 exit 255, runs past the Tucson Mall and leaves the city as a six-lane divided highway through Oro Valley. Most trips to Catalina or SaddleBrooke start on it.
Tangerine Road
The cross street at milepost 79 that marks the north side of Oro Valley.
Catalina State Park
On the east side of the highway at the base of the Santa Catalinas: 5,493 acres, set aside in 1974 and dedicated in 1983. The Romero Canyon, Sutherland and 50-Year trails start here.
Oracle Junction
Where SR 79 splits off toward Florence, at milepost 91. The divided highway ends just past it, and Biosphere 2, owned by the University of Arizona since 2011, is farther on near Oracle.
If a stone hits the glass on the way into town, note the nearest cross street and the time, and take a dated photo once you are parked.
ZIP code
One ZIP code for both
The 2020 Census puts both Catalina and SaddleBrooke in ZIP 85739, and Biosphere 2's mailing address uses it as well, which shows how far the code stretches. Because one ZIP covers two counties and several square miles of desert, give us the full street address and the nearest cross street on Oracle Road when you book. That is what the technician plans the drive from, not the ZIP.
Two counties also means two sheriffs. A break-in or vandalism report in Catalina goes to the Pima County Sheriff's Department; in SaddleBrooke it goes to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office. Our car window page has the agency for every community on our Tucson listing.
Where we work
Installs at homes up here
Most jobs in Catalina and SaddleBrooke happen in a garage or a driveway. A few details make the visit smoother.
- If your community has a gate, put us on the guest list for the day or send the gate code with your booking.
- Some associations limit work in the street or in front of the house. An open garage keeps the job on your own property.
- Shade matters in summer. A garage, a carport or the shady side of the house in the morning is best.
- If the car will be at the clubhouse, a church or a trailhead lot rather than at home, check that the lot allows the work and tell us where to look.
- Homes off the paved roads in Catalina: tell us about any gravel lane or wash crossing a map might miss.
We do not install in rain or blowing dust. If a monsoon storm is coming off the mountains, we call and move the time with you.
Through the year
Seasonal homes and long drives
Some cars here sit for months while their owners are away. A chip that sits through a summer of sun usually turns into a crack, so if you are leaving for the season, replace a damaged windshield before you go, or leave keys with someone who can meet the technician.
For everyone else, the drive into town is the risk. Low sun early and late in the day lights up every pit and crack in the glass, and that glare is harder to see through on a long highway drive.

Catalina and SaddleBrooke questions
Not sure we reach your street? Call (520) 492-2800.
Is SaddleBrooke part of your Tucson service area?
Yes. SaddleBrooke is on our Tucson listing even though it sits in Pinal County, and so is Catalina on the Pima County side.
Can you replace the windshield inside my garage?
Usually, yes, if there is room to open both front doors and walk around the car. Tell us if the garage is tight or full.
My car has a lane camera. Can it be calibrated at home?
In many cases, yes. Calibration comes with the windshield replacement when your car needs it, done in the same visit where the procedure can be done on site. If your vehicle needs a different setup, we tell you before booking.
Do I need to be home?
Someone needs to let the technician reach the car and hand over the keys. A neighbour or family member is fine. Tell us who to ask for.
