January and February
Frost, gems and the rodeo
Winter brings Tucson its biggest events. The gem, mineral and fossil shows run from January 27 to February 14 in 2027, with the main show, first held in 1955, at the Tucson Convention Center. Parking near downtown and along the freeway is tight for those three weeks, so if your car is at work in that part of town, a home appointment is often easier.
La Fiesta de los Vaqueros, the Tucson rodeo, follows from February 20 to 28, 2027. Its nine days bring event traffic of their own.
Mornings are the other winter factor. Tucson averages four nights at or below freezing in January, five in December and two in February. A windshield with a chip in it does not enjoy a frosty start followed by the defroster on full. If the car sleeps outside, scrape gently instead of pouring hot water on the glass, and pick a late-morning slot for the replacement.
March to May
The quiet months and an early start to the heat
Spring is the easy season for glass work. April, May and June are the driest months of the year, each averaging a quarter inch of rain or less, so almost any day and time is open.
It does not always stay mild for long. On average Tucson's first 100-degree day arrives on May 18, but in 2026 it came on March 19, the earliest in the weather service's records. If you have been putting off a cracked windshield since winter, spring is the time to book it, before the long run of hot afternoons begins.
June to September
Heat and the monsoon
Summer brings most of Tucson's 68 hot days: 21 in a normal June, 19 in July, 15 in August and 8 in September. A small crack tends to grow fastest now, because the sun heats the outside of the glass while the air conditioning cools the inside.
The weather service counts June 15 to September 30 as monsoon season. July is the wettest month of the year at 2.21 inches, and August is close behind. Storms here usually build in the afternoon, often with blowing dust ahead of the rain, so a morning appointment is the safe choice. If the car will be outside when a storm is coming, we call and move the time with you.
Summer habits that help
- Book the earliest slot you can, and park under a carport or in a garage if you have one.
- Leave a sunshade up until the technician arrives. It keeps the old glass and the dash cooler.
- After a storm, check for new chips from blown gravel and wipe the dust off the camera window behind the mirror.
October to December
Back to easy, with one big Saturday
By October the heat is mostly done; on average the year's 68th day at 100 degrees falls on October 16. Highs in the 80s make it a good month to replace glass that cracked over the summer.
November has one date to plan around. El Tour de Tucson rides on Saturday, November 21, 2026, with its Expo at the Tucson Convention Center from November 19. Roads along the routes close for the ride. If you live near a route, book a different day or let us know your street when you book.
December rounds the year off with short days and the first frosty mornings again.
If you leave for part of the year
Seasonal homes and parked cars
- A car that sits through a Tucson summer with a crack in the windshield usually comes back to a longer crack. Replace it before you leave if you can.
- If someone else will be at the house, a neighbour or a property manager can let the technician into a garage. Tell us who when you book.
- In gated communities, put us on the guest list for the date and leave the gate code.
- Leave the keys where the person meeting us can reach them, and make sure the car will start after weeks of sitting.
Pick a good week and book it
